The Watchmaker

This is a short story about one of those strangers who gradually turned into an acquaintance and eventually become one of my inspirations. I dedicate this to the one who I had accidentally discovered, when my family and I had shifted from Nerul to Kharghar (both in Navi Mumbai), way back in the year 2008. My relationship with him has only blossomed over a period of time. Until recently, it never occurred to me that he could be the subject of one of my blogs. The reason which prompts me to write about him is already becoming the reason for me to see him less frequently, and this thought is making me a bit sad and emotional. Although I distinctly remember that we shifted to Kharghar, in the rainy month of July 2008, I don’t recollect exactly when I bumped into this stranger. I do recall although that it was not for my own watch, but for getting the cells of my wife’s multiple watches replaced, that forced me to go out on a sleepy afternoon of a rainy weekend, looking for an effi...

A simple and healthy yet exotic tea-time / beer snack

Image
Those who have been following my blog will be taken by surprise by this one. I have changed gear to present to you a different side of mine, which was until recently unknown both to me and my followers. I never knew that I have had an interest in working in the kitchen. Although for the last few weeks I’ve been preparing my own breakfast (which I’ll present in a separate blog), making an egg omelette a few times in a week and of late preparing ‘kadak’ tea (which I’ll present in a separate blog) for my beautiful wife, as a welcome drink for her, after she’s back from teaching in a school, I didn’t imagine that these excursions would lead to my increased interest in preparing a simple and healthy yet exotic tea-time snack, which I’m proud to present to all of you. I’m hopeful that you all have known or at least heard about ‘Makhana’, also called ‘Foxnut’, the starchy white seeds which are largely found in eastern and southern Asia. Bihar, a state in India, produces 90% of the worl...

Thank all those who have pushed you to the limits!

In life, normally we remember those who have been good with us, those who have made us comfortable or have helped us at some point in time or the other. This is very natural since such people make us happy and who doesn’t want to be happy? Have you ever thought of those people who push us to the limits? Mostly we carry some kind of a grudge against those people. The level of our grudge varies depending on either how much they have pushed us or how much has been our sustainability level to adjust to that push. This also sometimes depends on the circumstances prevailing at the time this push-pull game is going on. While reflecting on the above today, I just went back thinking about those episodes in my life where I was really pushed to the limits. Generally, I’ve also carried my small grudge against those who have pushed me hard, very hard, however today a new thought emerged. I started thinking about how these episodes have made me do something big, take some strong & sig...

Struggling with my new iPad - blame it on my new iPhone X

Having bought a new iPhone X and the new iPad almost at the same time, I'm now-a-days struggling with my iPad. iPhone X opens with face detection, and in a few days, I've got so much used to it that now whenever I open my iPad, I expect it also to also behave in the same way. I have to wait for a few seconds before I realize that I have to press a button to open it, which in it's own way is a struggle! No wonder, technology makes you smart as well as lazy! PS: Just realized this is my shortest blog ;-)

Advantages of Jogging / Running (over Walking? NOT necessarily)

While I’m no marathon runner, lately having taken-up light jogging as a hobby, primarily in absence of an opportunity to swim in the cold winters of Delhi, I feel I can share my experience which perhaps can add some value to you. Disclaimer: Please do not blindly follow anything I say. In case of doubt please refer to an expert. Jogging clears your mind like no other activity does. It helps you think better, get new and fresh ideas, and buoyants your mood in a way that you can implement them. It makes your heart pound faster, opens your lungs since you breathe harder and makes you sweat which opens the pores of your skin. It helps you to get into a habit of setting goals, aiming for them and achieving them. It sets you into a routine and hence a sense of rhythm. It gives you a chance to appreciate your surroundings and feel the nature beautiful. It’s one of the most amazing exercises for those who spend long hours in front of their laptop. It gets you back into that ‘feeling po...
